A Voice for All at Venue 114
Georgia Beard explores the connective power of events as Venue 114 prepares for another year stacked with local conversations, national festivals and international acts!
When we step into an event space overflowing with our community, we encounter something infectious.
We find unity in our voices and experiences as the artists, entrepreneurs and changemakers on stage become our binding agents.
Together, we search for profound sensations, share in a common cause and celebrate each other’s work.
Throughout 2023, Venue 114 delivered these diverse foundations for community connection as they welcomed local, national and international events and returned to pre-pandemic capacities.
Their abundant program reminded us just how much we need collective experiences to strengthen our sense of belonging.
With Venue 114 bringing globally renown voices to our backyard, we don’t need to abandon our regional neighbourhoods for events in cities and state capitals.
From community forums, charity fundraisers, business breakfasts and expos to live music, dance concerts and theatre productions; to school formals and private celebrations, Venue 114 has striven to exceed client and community expectations for 18 years.
They attract close to 1,000 events and over 80,000 patrons per calendar year, filling 15 different event spaces with the majority capturing pristine views of Lake Kawana.
“As a Sunshine Coast Council owned and operated venue, one of my objectives is to highlight our beautiful natural environment and elevate the experience of living on the Sunshine Coast,” says Venue Manager Louise Thompson.
“Examples of this include sourcing outer-region positive economic events, attracting national and international music artists for our community to engage in and hosting community events that raise funds and awareness on important subject matters.”
One of Louise’s favourites is the Australian Wearable Art Festival, which transformed Venue 114 into a fashion parade of outlandish proportions in August 2023.
Wearable artists from across the country – and the world – stretched their creative potential and were awarded for innovation in the avant-garde, the organic and the repurposed.
“Having a 27-metre-long catwalk in our main hall, showcasing extremely talented artists who curated that ‘wow’ factor with a sustainability initiative brought so much joy,” Louise said.
Australian Wearable Art Festival is set to return on 9 and 10 August 2024 and in January, the venue will celebrate the best in wedding suppliers with a fashion parade and lucky door prizes for the Sunshine Coast Wedding Showcase!
While encountering awe-inspiring talent and dream-weaving services from our creatives and business owners, Venue 114 has encouraged locals to hear influential voices and take part in transformative dialogues.
“For the past five years, my incredible team and I have produced the In Conversation Series which was founded on a passion to educate, engage and empower our community and to sow seeds of thought and invite growth,” Louise said.
“We don’t shy away from the topics that people want to discuss and are relatable within the community.”
Over the years, Venue 114 has hosted guest speakers Craig Foster, Layne Beachly, Melissa Doyle, Ronni Kahn and Leisel Jones, giving them a respectful platform to share their stories of hope, triumph and more.
In Conversation will kick off in 2024 in conjunction with International Women’s Day on 8 March, bringing female voices to the forefront of contemporary issues. More details to be announced!
As Venue 114 proves itself a major player in the Australian events industry, attracting national and international acts – and there’s a sound for every ear!
In 2023, fans young and young at heart packed out the venue to celebrate electric performances from Australian rock bands Noiseworks, Lime Cordiale, Spacey Jane and rock band DMA’S.
On 7 January 2024, Venue 114 will be kicking off another impressive line-up of live music with The Amity Affliction’s Regional Tour!
Off the back of their sold-out capital city tour of Australia, the world-renowned metalcore band will wake up the intimate space with their explosively heavy sound alongside openers Alpha Wolf, Terminal Sleep and Run.
Alongside venues Altitude Nine and other Sunshine Coast Council Community Spaces, Venue 114 is anticipating another year of thought-provoking, inspiring and exhilarating events in a space that is inclusive, accessible and adaptable with opportunities for everyone.
“From my experience, I know that events connect community and bring a sense of belonging with a clear objective and purpose,” Louise said.
“There is nothing more rewarding for my team and I to assist than in successfully delivering that very special event and creating a safe, inclusive, professional event and venue space for our community to celebrate, cultivate and immerse in.”
