Nestled in the lush beauty of Flaxton Gardens, this celebrated Sunshine Coast Hinterland event returns for its 16th year offering nine days of art, nature and a little bit of magic.
No matter where you’re coming from on the Sunshine Coast, the journey itself sets the scene. Winding roads thread through the rolling hills of the hinterland, transporting you to another world. And what better time to be driving through the Blackall Range than spring, where vibrant jacaranda trees burst into bloom and abundant green pastures create a landscape almost too picturesque to be real.
Start your art adventure ‘on the edge’ enjoying expansive ocean views at Flaxton Gardens. Enjoy breakfast from 8am with a fresh coffee, morning tea or lunch in the sunlit garden setting inviting you to pause, sip and savour before you enter a world of whimsy where art and nature collide.
Over 70 sculptors from across Australia converge in this lush backdrop, filling both indoor galleries and outdoor gardens with sculptural creations that challenge the eye and invite playful curiosity.
Round a bend, and a gleaming metal figure might emerge, like a modern phoenix rising from the rich Queensland soil; follow a winding trail to find wooden forms that mirror the gentle curves of the surrounding hill; step to the garden’s edge and delight in creations that dance with the breeze.
This is a space meant not just to be viewed, but to be experienced, each sculpture harmonising with the serenity, movement and vibrant spirit of the Hinterland. And some even designed with audience interaction in mind, encouraging you to step inside, walk around or see how light, shadow and breeze transform them throughout the day. It’s art that makes you part of the story.
One of the most rewarding parts of Sculpture on the Edge is the chance to meet the artists themselves. Many of the creators are on hand to share their stories, inspirations and techniques.
From the spark of an idea to the final brush of polish, hearing how each piece came to life adds a whole new layer of meaning. It’s a rare opportunity to connect directly with the people shaping the Sunshine Coast’s contemporary art scene. Whether you are a seasoned collector, a curious first-timer or simply someone hungry for inspiration, Sculpture on the Edge promises a feast for the senses.

With gates opening at 8am and closing at 3pm, there’s ample time to explore. Adult admission ticket holders also receive a catalogue of the event, a perfect keepsake and guide to the artists and their work.
