Deb Caruso discovers the local serving up more than bold Greek flavours, generous share plates and a ready-made setting for celebrations of all sizes.

Stavros Restaurant & Bar is welcoming winter with a traditional Greek menu that invites you to linger a little longer, order another glass of wine and make room for dessert.

Located on the outside corner of Kawana Shoppingworld with plenty of parking, this is a venue that knows exactly what people want when the weather cools down: food that is warm, generous and built for sharing.  With friendly service and bold Greek flavours, Stavros is a destination for a casual catch-up as well as for special occasions and celebrations.

Whether you seek a fast, flavour-driven fix or are settling in for something more meaningful, Stavros offers plenty of options to create your own Greek Odyssey.
The menu opens with Yia Yia’s Dips with warm pita bread before moving to the more traditional Mezze packed with dishes that get people talking as soon as they arrive: Flaming Saganaki Cheese; Chargrilled Fremantle Octopus; Keftedes (Yia Yia’s Greek meatballs) Spanakopita Arancini; Sticky Lamb Ribs and more. These are the plates that set the tone for the table, with plenty of colour, theatre and flavour.

For lunch, the range of Yiros is in high demand alongside Greek Burgers and homemade desserts but it’s the new Winter Sunday lunch that is ready to steal the spotlight. Imagine, a 1.2-kilo Sovereign lamb shoulder, slow-roasted to succulent perfection and served on the bone with Greek salad, Greek potatoes and all the trimmings that invites you to slow down and savour the artistry of the kitchen. Paired with a Kir-Yianni Paranga Red, a medium-bodied Greek wine, and you’re reminded why Sundays should be a day of worship.

Open seven days from 11am until late, and dinner is just as delicious with the Signature Souvla of Crispy Skin Boneless Chicken Maryland or Slow Roast Sovereign Lamb Shoulder competes with Local Red Snapper, BBQ Lamb Cutlets; Mussels & Fries; and Vegetarian Moussaka. But it’s the Pastitsio, a Greek-style lasagna, that is hard to resist.

Salads & Sides are almost a meal unto themselves and the line-up of signature cocktails, comprehensive wine and beer list with some Greek gems, keep the good times flowing. Can’t decide? Choose from one of three Feast Menus, sit back and let the food do the talking. Stavros’ homemade desserts and cakes – from Greek Shortbread Biscuits to Baklava, cakes and a Sticky Fig & Walnut Pudding with toffee sauce, strawberries and fresh cream – are perfect any time of day or night. The Dessert Platter delivers the greatest hits on one plate.

Stavros is also perfectly positioned for functions and celebrations with no venue hire fee and flexible areas that can be adapted for different group sizes and styles from two to 400. The terrace, a high-bar section and a main-entry area that suits larger table-style seating make it practical for everything from dinner with a handful of friends, to business meetings or a larger gathering that needs more room to move, the option is on the table to book out the whole venue.

With the menu already built around sharing and a drinks list that suits a celebratory mood, the restaurant has the kind of setup that takes some of the pressure out of organising an event. Stavros Restaurant and Bar offers the sort of Greek hospitality that invites you to eat well, stay awhile and leave already planning the next visit – whether that is for a quick fix, Sunday lunch, a long dinner with friends or a function that deserves to be fun and memorable.

The food is the kind people come back for: bold, satisfying, rooted in tradition but delivered with enough personality to feel current. Winter is made for this.
Pull up a chair, order the lamb shoulder, open a bottle of Kir-Yianni and let the Greek adventure begin. Yiamas! Cheers to winter at Stavros Restaurant & Bar.
