Green Goodness with Greensmith Grocers
In a world that often prioritises convenience over care, there’s something quietly radical about a store that leads with heart. Ida Fink Gundtoft celebrates four years of this organic community marketplace.
Tucked into the bustling heart of Birtinya, where lake breezes meet the rhythm of local life, Greensmith Grocers has stood for almost four years as a glowing beacon of organic abundance. With vibrant vegetables, fabulous fruits and aisles of lovingly curated pantry items, this community-minded haven has been rewriting the story of how we shop, eat and connect – with each other and with the earth.
At the helm are Uwe Wullfen and Jess Holdsworth – two pioneers with deep roots in the organic food industry and a shared vision to bring the Sunshine Coast something truly special. Together, they’ve cultivated more than just a grocery store.
They’ve built a vibrant, nourishing ecosystem – one that celebrates clean living, supports local growers, and offers genuine human connection, all under one beautifully stocked roof.
From the very beginning, Jess and Uwe had one mission: to create a space that felt like home. They dreamed of a place where customers could stroll in and instantly feel that they were in good hands – a shop that lived and breathed integrity, community and care. And so, Greensmith Grocers was born, grounded in their deep commitment to organics, transparency and authenticity.
Nearly four years later, that mission is thriving. “Every piece of fruit and vegetable you’ll find here is either Certified Organic or spray-free, hand-selected from local farms across Queensland and the Sunshine Coast whenever possible,” Jess said.
“Shoppers don’t have to squint at labels or question the origins of their food. We’ve already done the homework.” Each product on the shelf has been thoroughly chosen, offering choices that are organic, vegan-friendly, gluten-free, preservative-free, and most importantly, real.
But Greensmith Grocers is more than just a shopping destination – it’s a movement. A gathering place. A space where health journeys begin and community ties are strengthened. Customers, like dear friends, return again and again not just for the delicious produce, but for the warmth and wisdom that flows through the aisles.
“The vibe is real and authentic,” shares one long-time customer, Alice. “The staff love what they do, and it shows. Greensmith isn’t just a shop – it’s a feeling you want to be part of.”
And that’s no accident. Jess and Uwe have built a team of over 30 passionate individuals who live and breathe the store’s values. From the naturopaths ready to offer wellness advice, to the friendly faces at the checkout who remember your name, every staff member plays a part in cultivating the Greensmith spirit.
Through the seasons, Greensmith Grocers has blossomed into a true hub for local food culture. “Our ever-popular Seasonal Market Nights bring together more than 100 visitors at a time, creating opportunities for customers to meet the local growers and makers behind their favourite products,” Jess said. “It’s a celebration of real food and real people.” And it’s just one of the many ways Greensmith brings the community closer.
They’ve also launched their own Organic Pantry range to offer even more value, hosted six wellness and cooking retreats, run over 30 free educational workshops, and offered everything from community Qi Gong classes to monthly specials and a generous VIP membership program. It’s all part of their unwavering commitment to supporting health, connection and local enterprise.
“We’ve stayed true to our core values since day one,” Jess said. It’s been incredible to see the impact of supporting our farmers, offering better choices to families and helping people on their wellness journeys.”
And the momentum only continues to grow.
In a proud milestone, Greensmith’s fresh produce section has now received official organic certification from Southern Cross Certification, further reinforcing their dedication to sourcing only from certified organic growers. This isn’t just a tick on paper; it’s a tangible promise to customers that what they’re buying is exactly what it claims to be.
Excitingly, an online shop is set to launch later this year, extending Greensmith’s reach to those who live further afield but still crave clean, organic food they can trust. And on the horizon is something truly delicious: their very own line of certified organic Recipe Bases, under the label Love My Earth’s Quick Stix. Designed to bring bold, authentic flavours to everyday meals, the new range is a game-changer for busy families who want dinner on the table – and fast – without compromising on quality. Each mix serves six and is packed with premium organic ingredients like spice blends and tomato powder. From Taco Night to family-favourite bolognese, rich butter chicken to a warming mild Indian curry, these bases promise to take home cooking to the next level.
For Jess and Uwe, the joy lies not just in the food, but in the connections it inspires. Greensmith Grocers is a love letter to the land, a celebration of ethical choices, and a tribute to what happens when a business grows with its community.
