Local Love at Greensmith Grocers
In a thriving agricultural region like the Sunshine Coast, supporting local is easy with such a diverse and abundant food bowl right on our doorstep, and your local ‘real food specialists’ — Greensmith Grocers, are bringing the best organic produce to the Sunshine Coast! Jodie Cameron unearths how our local farmers and producers are making conscious eating a way of life…
Whether it’s farm-to-fork, paddock-to-plate or good old fashioned homegrown happiness; as an ex-macadamia producer, I know all the farm catchphrases, and fortunately the ‘supporting local’ movement has proven it’s not a tired fad, and is here to stay. And it’s more accessible than ever thanks to folks like Greensmith Grocers Co-owner’s Jess Holdsworth and Uwe Wullfen who are passionate about spreading the local love across the Sunshine Coast!
Buying local is a chance to minimse food kilometres, while eating seasonally and supporting the farmers and producers who work tirelessly to bring their produce to our plates and wholesome goodness to our bellies! Greensmith Grocers live and breathe all things organic and local, and with more than 50 years’ combined experience – Jess and Uwe have built strong relationships with their local network of farmers and producers by supporting their growth.
“We love working with local producers and suppliers to help get their product to the community,” Jess explains. “Not only do we stock our shelves with local goodness but our Market Nights showcase our amazing local producers and provide our customers with the opportunity to build a connection with the people behind the products.
“We also offer special incentives such as 10% off storewide on Market Nights.”
Greensmith Grocers’ homely Birtinya shop stocks an impressive range of 100% organic and biodynamic produce, so you can feel safe with the knowledge that when you are shopping at Greensmith Grocers, you are buying quality produce.
“We aren’t prepared to compromise on our fresh produce, which is why we only stock 100% organic or biodynamic fruit and vegetables; we do not stock any ‘spray free’ produce because we simply cannot control the inputs like we can with organic certification,” Jess says. “Buying organic and supporting our local food supply is extremely important to us because it’s not only best for the planet, we care about our customers’ health, and our future generations.”
Greensmith Grocers’ local partnerships form the essence of their business, which is why Jess and Uwe are always on the lookout for new local and organic suppliers because they believe in giving their farmers and producers the best possible opportunity to succeed!
“We love working with people that share the same ‘real food’ vision and values as us,” Jess says. “We genuinely want the locals’ products and produce to sell well in our store, so we look for clean food that uses as many local ingredients as possible.”
When she’s not teaching a kefir or dahl workshop, or working in-store amongst the daily hustle and bustle of retail foodie life, Jess is a passionate producer herself following a stint with the Food & Agribusiness Network’s Grow National Program – Jess’ Love My Earth organic range of dahl mixes, spices, teas and pantry staples are now available online, and on the shelves of Greensmith Grocers – naturally!
“I am thrilled to be sharing my organic range with my local community, and showing them how easy it is to make deliciously nourishing, wholesome food in your own kitchen,” Jess smiles. “Dahl is one of the easiest, quickest and most comforting meals to make, and a little goes a long way! Just add protein, flatbread and chutney to one of our six dahl mixes, and say hello to a warm, delicious hug in a bowl.”
With their family-friendly service, competitive prices, free community events, holistic retreats, and a unique community-minded energy – their customers return because Jess, Uwe and the team are passionate about health, wellness, and the planet! Join the Greensmith Grocer family today and let them support you on your organic journey.
