No Place Like the Novotel

High teas, staycation specials and kids’ activities, oh my! If you haven’t visited the Novotel Sunshine Coast recently, prepare to be impressed by its new luxe aesthetic and everything on offer for holidaymakers and locals alike, discovers Rebecca Jamieson Dwyer.

Palm trees sway in the breeze, rainbow lorikeets dart through the sky, and a family of kangaroos munches on juicy grass as a bush turkey builds its nest close by – welcome to the Novotel Sunshine Coast at Twin Waters, where you’re invited to leave your worries at the door and immerse yourself in the scenic natural surroundings.

Not only does the Novotel really turn it on in the natural beauty department, it’s also recently undergone major renovations to the lobby, pool, restaurant, and many of its rooms, offering a world-class new coastal luxe feel that perfectly complements its fabulous beachside location.

The new Sicilian-inspired bar and restaurant, SOLA (named after the goddess of the sun), is decorated in sun-drenched orange and pink tones, offering diners a sophisticated slice of ‘la dolce vita’ right here on the Sunshine Coast.

The resort has recently announced the appointment of its new Executive Chef, Craig Milne, who’s well-known for his passion for sourcing produce from Sunshine Coast farms and incorporating native ingredients into his innovative dishes – including Spaghetti Al Mare with local prawns, and the Signature Salad with grilled Glass House Mountains chicken, alongside a rotating range of daily specials.

Another exciting element of the summer menu is the new ‘Bush to Coast’ High Tea – an elegant feast showcasing a blend of local flavours and culinary craftsmanship that pays homage to the hinterland and the coast.

Sip on your choice of native botanical loose leaf teas as you tuck into sweet and savoury sensations, such as Kenilworth blue cheese tarts; Mooloolaba prawn cocktails; truffled egg and Warrigal greens sandwiches; Moreton Bay Bug rolls; mini Christmas chocolate tarts – and classic scones with cream and Berenberg raspberry jam, served as part of the tastiest tower you ever did see!

To celebrate both the holiday season and the launch of their High Tea, the Novotel are running a special ‘High Tea & High Country’ competition: anyone who books in for High Tea during December and January will go in the draw to win a three-night stay at the resort’s five-star sister property, Peppers Marysville, located in the High Country of the beautiful Yarra Valley, Victoria.

Recently renovated and situated just 90 minutes from the Melbourne CBD and airport, you’ll enjoy exploring wineries and the stunning ranges for walks, biking and more, all right on your doorstep.

Book your High Tea today for a chance to win this fabulous prize and immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of country Victoria!*

Locals, listen up: if you live on the Sunshine Coast, the Novotel is inviting you to kickstart your weekends with their exclusive Early Bird Locals Breakfast deal.

Visit the restaurant before 7am on Saturdays and Sundays for its impressive breakfast buffet (featuring bacon, eggs, pancakes, congee and a spectacular selection of fruit) and enjoy a generous 20% discount – a truly egg-cellent offer!

And as if that’s not enough, the resort has just launched its exclusive Staycation for Sunny Coast residents, showcasing their upgraded resort rooms, enhanced pool facilities, revamped lobby, and the expanded line-up of children’s activities within their new VIK (Very Important Kids) program – featuring treasure hunts, beach cricket, sand castle competitions, fish feeding and more.

“We invite our local community to experience and explore the resort’s latest enhancements with our special Staycation deals, including stay three nights, pay for two,” says Resort General Manager Nic O’Donnell.

The Hello Sunshine team were thrilled to feature the Novotel Sunshine Coast as the picture-perfect backdrop for our Summer Fashion Shoot, spending a day soaking up the pretty pool area, gorgeous grounds, atmospheric restaurant and the fully-refurbished luxury of the Grand Overwater Bungalow that served as the base for our shoot (lucky us!).

Turn to page 80 to be swept up in the story of our glamorous mother-daughter getaway and discover the hottest looks for this season.

With its gorgeous new interior, wonderful facilities, easy beach access and expansive surrounds, there’s really no place like the Novotel this summer.

Isn’t it time you discovered your new home away from home and started living the resort life?

Willy the gorgeous Green Sea Turtle was released into the pristine waters off Mooloolaba by the @sealifesunshinecoast team this morning, who’ve been helping him recover in their Turtle Rehabilitation Centre for the past few months.

Willy was discovered on Marcoola Beach in September by the Coolum Coastal Care team in a critical condition and covered in leeches.

But today, thanks to the care he’s received from the legends at SEA LIFE, he’s happy, healthy and seemed super-keen to get back to his natural ocean habitat. Enjoy being free, Willy!

Check out the behind-the-scenes turtle tour at @sealifesunshinecoast for more information and to meet the other sick and injured turtles they’re helping nurse back to full health! 🐢
