Sunshine Sounds Festival: A Big Ray of Sunshine
Donning muddy boots and beaming smiles festival goers delighted in the inaugural Sunshine Sounds Festival with rain failing to fizzle their spirits.
Hundreds of music-lovers turned out for a weekend of good tunes and dancing to celebrate homegrown artistry on Gubbi Gubbi Country.
21 talented artists belted out tunes at the Eumundi Showgrounds over two music-filled days, including incredible performances from Kate Miller-Heidke, Miiesha, The Dreggs, Sahara Beck, Busby Marou, Cigany Weaver, Deline Briscoe… and so many more!
Performing with the Yama Nui Social Club, Andrea Kirwin launched her new album ‘Bloom’ to conclude a brilliant first-day of music.
With 100% Queensland artists – of which 50% were First Nations, 50% Sunshine Coast locals and 75% female artists – it was an inspiring weekend of music featuring a diverse range of homegrown talent.
The event projected a welcome ray of sunshine into an otherwise gaping hole in live music events on the Sunshine Coast.
Sunshine Sounds Festival Artistic Director and Founder, Katie Noonan, took to the stage on Sunday with her ‘Trio’ including 16-year-old son Dexter as drummer to share her incredible musical talents with the crowd – what better way to celebrateher birthday!
Thrilled with the success of the festival, Katie praised her capable team for an outstanding weekend of fun. “Despite the somewhat challenging weather, our amazing team delivered a sensational community event,” Katie said. “It’s so great to give Queensland artists the chance to perform live again, and for our community to come together for a family-friendly festival.”
