Top Picks for a Multicultural Crack-Up at Sunshine Coast Comedy Festival

Before the Sunshine Coast Comedy Festival sends us into hysterics from 11 to 13 November, we’re collating our top picks for a side-splitting, knee-slapping night of laughs. Embark on a cultural tour of comedy like no other!

Tommy Little

Australians, in their infinite proclivity for insults, have come up with a lot of ways to label people – the larrikin, the dag, the bogan. Perhaps the most familiar character of all can be found in every group of mates – the dickhead.

Making a right fool of themselves, never learning from their mistakes and always ready to spout an outrageous story, the dickhead is an endless source of entertainment.

Tommy Little is proud to call himself Australia’s biggest dickhead. His latest stand-up show, Pretty Fly for a Dickhead, showcases the laidback and irreverent humour which has won Tommy so many fans on The Project and as one half of Hit Network’s Carrie & Tommy radio show.

Nothing is off limits when Tommy hits the stage, and his real-life antics and setbacks are foolish, infectiously funny and definitely his own fault.

Best O’ British

If Australian humour is the dirty imitation, British humour is the pure, unadulterated OG. Nothing is off limits when a British comedian takes to the stage, delivering a deadpan set that’s ironic, self-deprecating and fantastically bleak.

We can’t wait to find out what splits the Brits’ sides – and erupt into our own side-splitting guffaws too! Best O’ British showcases three top-class international comedians every night for the most popular international stand-up on the Comedy Festival Circuit.

Georgie Carroll’s bluntness and charm coupled with razor-sharp wit gives her a broad-spectrum appeal that can be put into any room and shine. After performing on stages and police stations from USA to Pakistan, Rory Lowe brings his partyboi antics and outlandish tales to the coast. Dan Willis’s easy-going, waggish humour crackles louder than ever after a career of over 3000 gigs in 11 different countries.

Aboriginal Comedy All-Stars

As we turn our ears to the voices of Indigenous Australians, we’re listening to their laughter too. Memories rise up, stereotypes crash down and political protests permeate their comedic stand-ups with ease.

This is the speciality of The Aboriginal Comedy All-Stars, who spin yarns and crack jokes with hysterical and thought-provoking honesty. The indigenous experience is complex and diverse – often hilariously so – and we can’t wait to witness it.

With sell-out seasons and 5-star reviews in the UK, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and beyond, Sean Choolburra, Kevin Kropinyeri, Andy Saunders and Steph Tisdell bring huge belly laughs from the heart of the wide brown land.

Rice & Spice

Cultures clash and connect when Singaporean-born Ting Lim and Indian-born Ashwin Segkar meet on stage at the Imperial Hotel Eumundi. This is a walk-into-a-bar joke come to life.

Daring, razor-sharp and infectious, Ting’s darkly intelligent observations about life and human nature have made her rising star in Australian comedy. Alongside her, Ashwin’s unexpected take on ordinary life comes from his pull between Indian and western culture, with a childhood in New Zealand, Australia and Malaysia.

We’re ready to crack up at this delightful mishmash of insights into migrant life, painfully funny stories and dry wit that never loses its sting.
