Wacker’s Guide to What’s Hot at Horizon Festival
Carlie Wacker is busy getting Hello Sunshine Magazine to print but took some time to peruse the playlist of performances at Horizon Festival 2022! It all starts with a peepshow in the Wonderland Spiegeltent (which is where we will launch our hot-off-the-press spring issue on August 31).
TOP PICK – CIRCA’S PEEPSHOWCirca’s Peepshow is the creative genius of Director Yaron Lifschitz – a cabaret of a different kind. Libby McDonnell and her Circa ensemble bring burlesque, balancing bodies and comedy to a show that will be seductive, sexy and super funny!
If you want a performance that will give you goosebumps, then soak up a sunset world-premiere gig at the base of Mount Tibrogargan. Songs of Gaia (mother earth) brings together first-class musicians from around the world in a breathtaking presentation celebrating the music of many cultures. I’ll be packing a sunset picnic and parking myself on a rug to embrace this earthly ensemble.
This is going to be so good because it’s KATE CEBERANO singing the songs of my youth, but it’s also KATE IN THE WONDERLAND SPIEGLTENT. I cannot wait to see one of my fave ARIA award-winning singer-songwriters belt out the bangers in a most magical setting. Young Boys Are My Weakness, Pash, Bedroom Eyes – yesssss bring on all the Kate classics!
I am really drawn to the Open Air series of performances as there’s nothing quite like immersing yourself in live music amongst nature. At this gig, you’ll be sinking your toes into the sand at Dicky Beach. As the sun starts to set, the soulful R&B-driven voice of CLOE Terare will take centre stage with a backdrop of lapping waves. This is an emerging local artist I am really excited to hear live. I’m getting her autograph – she is a superstar in the making!
